Bill Pullman & Rick Moranis Returning For New ‘Spaceballs’; Keke Palmer, Lewis Pullman Also Set – The Dish

Big news for sci-fi comedy fans—Bill Pullman and Rick Moranis are officially returning as Lone Starr and Dark Helmet in a new Spaceballs sequel from Amazon MGM Studios. The film is set to hit theaters in 2027.

Joining the returning stars is Keke Palmer, in a role that’s still under wraps. Also added to the cast is Lewis Pullman, son of Bill Pullman and a rising talent known for Top Gun: Maverick and the upcoming Thunderbolts.

Perhaps the most surprising comeback is Rick Moranis, who has rarely appeared on screen in the last two decades. Mel Brooks, the original film’s director and star, is also coming back as Yogurt.

The new movie is described as a “Non-Prequel Non-Reboot Sequel Part Two with Reboot Elements Franchise Expansion Film”—a humorous nod to the growing trend of complex franchise reboots.

Josh Greenbaum (Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar) will direct, with a script by Benji Samit, Dan Hernandez, and Josh Gad. Gad will also act in and produce the film alongside Mel Brooks and Imagine Entertainment’s Brian Grazer and Jeb Brody.

The original Spaceballs (1987) was a spoof of Star Wars and other sci-fi hits. Despite a modest box office ($38.1 million worldwide), it became a cult classic, loved for its quirky humor and unforgettable characters like Barf, Princess Vespa, and President Skroob.

Bill Pullman, known for Independence Day and Lost Highway, has been busy with projects like Netflix’s The Boroughs and A24’s Famous. Rick Moranis, a legend from films like Ghostbusters and Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, stepped away from acting in the late ’90s to raise his children but recently returned for a Mint Mobile ad with Ryan Reynolds.
