Easy Homemade French Bread Recipe

Ingredients

2 1/4 tsp (1 packet) active dry yeast 2 1/4 cups warm water (110°F) 2 tbsp granulated sugar 1 tbsp salt 2 tbsp vegetable oil or olive oil 6 cups all-purpose flour Optional: 1 egg white (for brushing before baking for shine)

Instructions

With just a few staples—flour, water, yeast, sugar, and salt—you can make a fresh, crusty French loaf in your own kitchen.

Mix warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it foam. Add flour and salt, then knead until smooth. Let dough rise until doubled in size.

Shape into loaves, make slits on top, and let rise again. Bake at high heat for a crisp crust and tender crumb inside.

Serve warm with butter or olive oil. Store at room temperature for 2–3 days or freeze for longer shelf life.

Once you bake this classic French bread, store-bought won’t compare. Try it fresh out of the oven—it’s comfort food at its finest.
