Anker Recalls 1.1 Million Power Banks After Reports of Fires, Explosions

Anker is recalling over 1 million power banks following reports of fires and explosions, U.S. safety officials announced.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued an alert on Thursday, June 12, stating that the Anker PowerCore 10000 portable charger, specifically model A1263, is at risk. More than 1.1 million units sold in the U.S. are affected by this recall.

Other Anker charging devices are also under recall, including the 334 MagGo 10K, 321 Power Bank (5K), and 535 Power Bank (20K) models.

Anker is offering free replacements for customers who return the faulty items. To qualify, users must send a photo of the recalled power bank clearly showing the model number, serial number, their name, the date, and the word “recalled” written directly on the device in permanent marker.

So far, 19 incidents have been reported to the CPSC, including two cases of minor burns and 11 cases of property damage totaling over $60,000.

The affected power banks were sold between June 2016 and December 2022 through Anker’s website, Amazon, Newegg, and eBay.

Consumers are urged to stop using the recalled chargers immediately to prevent injury or damage.
